Intro
With Randy’s interest in privacy from Big Tech growing lately, in this episode he provides a more-detailed list on the tools he’s landed on; Non-Evil hosting solutions, basically.
The Self-hosted Tools
- Synology NAS (Hear of the Operation)
- Synology Drive with Synology Office enabled.
- Synology Moments, soon to be Photos.
- Synology Note Station and the Synology Web Clipper
- FreshRSS – Great Google Reader alternative.
- Ghost – Website / Publication. They are pretty awesome, with public company metrics.
- Open Source CCTC Solution (Anything other than Ring, Nest, etc).
- Shinobi is one that I’ve been casually reading about.
- Apparently, Dahua cameras are superior as far as the camera sensors go.
- For best value for the price, I seemingly can’t avoid recommending Ubiquity/UniFi products. They offer UniFi Protect, and that’s likely what I’ll be going with, but I’ll probably start light to see how one camera performs on my porch. Bottom line, I need to get away from Ring.
The Non Self-hosted Tools
- Social Networks
- MeWe (They mention “No ads, no spyware, no BS).
- Parler (when it returns).
- Mastadon
- Adobe Spark
- Conclusion
